Croatia
Perhaps you did not realize how near Croatia is. After a journey of just two hours you can discover the charm of this unspoilt land, mild climate and splendid blue-green sea; it will amaze you. A medieval atmosphere is preserved in the cobbled streets of Rovinji and its beaches offer wonderful panoramas. A direct link from the harbour of Cesenatico gives you the chance to spend a whole day on the opposite coast of the Adriatic.
Emilia Romagna Lines operates between Cesenatico and Croatia, taking you to Lussino, Zara, Hvar City, Rovinj, and vice versa, on fast catamarans in about two hours…..go to site.
Many people say that the Mediterranean of Croatia is the most beautiful. Sailing enthusiasts have always known this. There is a reason for the Kornati Islands being one of the most appealing areas in the Mediterranean for sailing.
Unlike the Italian Adriatic coast, Croatia is mainly characterised by rocks, alternating with short stretches of sandy coasts. To make up for this, the water is crystal clear and the landscape is even more fascinating.
CROATIA MEDITERRANEAN CULTURE
Signs of the civilizations which have left their traces in this land can be see everywhere, from
ancient times, through the age of Roman civilization, the Romanesque era, Medieval times, leading up to the Mediterranean structures of the town. No wonder that three towns have even been declared cultural patrimony of humanity by UNESCO: the striking historic centre of Dubrovnik; Trogir, with its ancient urban nucleus, and Split, with its Diocletian Palace, which dates back to the late classic period.
WILD NATURE IN CROATIA
The “sculptures” created by nature itself are considered to be particularly precious by UNESCO, and it is for this reason that they are protected. The most beautiful and undoubtedly the most famous National Park in Croatia, the Plitvice lakes, was granted the name of “Natural Patrimony of Humanity” in 1979. It features 16 picturesque mountain lakes set among rugged rocks which are connected to one another with steep waterfalls.
CULTURE AND LIQUEUR
The Croatians claim that they have the tastiest fish around. It is however true to say that the vast variety of fish which is served here is of such a high quality that it is practically impossible to avoid becoming fond of this dish. What more could you ask for than a good Croatian wine to accompany these dishes. Why not yourself to a Maraschino, a liqueur which has been produced in Zara since 1821, at the end of a sumptuous dish?
In Croatia there are numerous museums, exhibitions, festivals and cultural attractions to visit.
