Unmissable Excursions: RIMINI

RiminiRimini is considered the “European capital of hospitality”, the lighthouse of one of the most famous coasts in the world as it offers tourism which aims to be efficient, cordial and economic.
The Marina Centro area in Rimini is the heart of holiday-maker's rituals, it is renowned for its meetings points for young people, its aperitifs, pubs, trendy disco-bars, fashionable boutiques, futuristic hotels facing the seafront, restaurants which offer excellent menus based on fish either cooked in a soup or grilled. On the other hand, numerous characteristic “piadina” (hot flat food) kiosks offer a night time snack. If homemade pasta emphasizes moments of celebration, then piadina, the fast food of local traditions, with squacquerone (fresh soft cheese) is indeed a daily delight. Flour made from soft wheat, tepid water, lard and salt are the ingredients of one of the most popular foods in Romagana. Squacquerone, as its names suggests in Italian, is a fresh, soft, almost runny, cheese. It is very simple, yet irresistible.
The history of Rimini as a seaside town began in 1843, when the first bathing establishment was set up; then in 1908 the first important hotel on the Riviera was opened: The Grand Hotel, symbol of a new élite tourism characterised by magnificent worldly celebrations. It was a point of reference for the cinematic imagery of Federico Fellini , born in Rimini, who knew how to transport a private and legendary vision of his hometown into a universal and collective dimension. Rimini dedicated a funeral monument created by Arnaldo Pomodoro to Fellini and Giulietta Masina: a park and a study foundation which preserves, besides the director's library, a remarkable number of his drawings.
Rimini is not only a fun place to be, a more intimate part of Rimini is waiting to be discovered; the routes around the Roman, medieval and Malatestan town, the itineraries through the four towns (the most renowned being San Giuliano, which is enlivened every two years by a folkloristic festival), and the castles in the nearby valleys. The historic centre of Rimini, of Roman foundation, is situated at the mouth of the river Marecchia and is bordered on one side by the Tiberio Bridge and on the by the Archway of Augusto, the oldest one remaining, on the other. Within the perimeter of the town walls stands the town of the Malatesta family, who called the most important artists to the court, including Giotto who arrived here at the beginning of the 14 th century. The works of the Tuscan master created the right conditions for the development of a pictorial school of great interest, that is to say Rimini.
